Conner Gabriel

We decided to create this blog because our family is all spread out and they always keep hounding us for new pictures and updates on Conner. We figured this would be the easiest...And here's our first family picture and birth story:

Conner Gabriel was born on April 28th at 3:34 p.m. He was:

and was 21" long. He had some respiratory distress at birth. He lungs sounded very "junky" and he could not keep his O2 sats up. The NICU team was called, and they came and assessed him. They suctioned him out, and said he was going to be ok but did not feel the need to put him the NICU at the beginning. They took him right away to the nursery to stabilize him and give him his bath. The NICU team thought that once he got his bath, he would scream and clear himself out. The nursery RNs ended up calling the NICU team back because he was still having trouble breathing and not keeping his sats up again. So, the NICU team decided to take him to the NICU for further monitoring. Of course, once he got to the NICU he was breathing fine and not dropping his O2 sats anymore. They did some xrays but could not say it was normal. There was a "patch" on his right lung, but in order to decide what it was they would have had to do a CT with contrast or an MRI. The radiologist and intensivist decided it was not necessary since he was breathing fine, and I really didn't want contrast being injected into my baby who was only a couple hours old. Conner also has a "wavy diaphragm" but the radiologist also said that they see this pop up in adults who never even knew they had it. Conner was probably one of the biggest babies in the NICU and did not even look like a NICU baby:

He only spent 26 hours in the NICU, and we brought him home two days later! He was also jaundiced but with force feeding every 2 hours and putting him in the sun, we did not have to get readmitted! Conner is now six weeks old! He continues to eat every 2 hours and is doing what a baby should be doing: eating, sleeping, and pooping! Time to go: Baby wants to eat again!
